Shamir consolidates Australian operations

23/05/2018By Matthew Woodley
Shamir Australia has moved its safety division into the company’s Brisbane optical laboratory, meaning its prescription safety eyewear is now Australian made.

The merging of operations, to be completed on June 1, is the culmination of a process that began when Shamir acquired Perth-based Eyres Optical in 2015. The newly combined lab is now able to offer prescription safety eyewear in flat and wrapped frames fitted with Shamir lenses; plano safety eyewear with bifocal readers in clear, tinted and polarised lenses; and plano safety eyewear in clear, tinted, photochromic and polarised lenses.

“It is very exciting to have our safety operation working hand in hand with Shamir Optical in Brisbane. We can now provide fast service and high-quality safety products which are locally manufactured and branded Australian Made,” Shamir Australia CEO Mr Paul Stacey said.

Shamir OHS uses Attitude III lenses in the wrap frames and Spectrum progressive lenses in the flat frames, while robotic edging equipment will be used to glaze the flat and wrapped safety frames.

“Shamir has been receiving ongoing requests from the market to source their Shamir safety orders from the same location as the optical lenses,” Shamir OHS’s national sales and operations manager Mr Peter Murphy said.

“We have adhered to their requests and Paul and I are very excited about the many benefits that this will now provide to our customers.”
