Twenty ear, nose and throat surgeons will also operate at the hospital, which was opened on 1 February. The new hospital has six operating theatres and a laser procedure room, among other state-of-the-art facilities, to cater for both day surgery and other procedures which may require patients staying overnight. The adjoining 45-room Quest Hotel, which is part of the same new property development, will be available for patients and their families from outside Sydney and outlying suburbs. Our medical specialists have been operating in separate facilities for the past 20 years but they will now perform the most advanced procedures in their respective fields in our state-of-the-art hospital, Mr Mark Resnik, managing director of hospital operator PresMed Australia (PMA), said. The hospital was designed to replace PMA’s two previous medical specialist facilities in Chatswood – the Ophthalmic Surgery Centre (OSC) and the ENT & Facial Day Surgery Centre (SENT, which is the only dedicated free-standing ENT day surgery in Sydney and has been operational since 1995. OSC has been operational since 1997 but was reaching full capacity. We needed to expand and develop a new private eye hospital to cater for dand and then the opportunity arose for SENT to merge its operations into the new hospital too, Mr Resnik said. This is an exciting venture because it sets a new professional benchmark for the Australian ophthalmic and ENT community while allowing the integration of two complimentary specialisations in Sydney’s only dedicated eye and ear private hospital .The facility will be accredited to the highest quality and safety healthcare standards and be staffed by specialised ophthalmologists, ENT surgeons, ophthalmic and ENT nurses, using the latest state-of the-art equipment and precision instrumentation. Eye and ENT surgery is characterised by rapid development in technologies which continuously improve patient outcomes, Mr Roger Cronin, chief operating officer of PMA, said. The new Eye and ENT hospital will provide local ophthalmologists and ENT surgeons with the latest technology to undertake the full spectrum of eye surgery and ENT procedures for both adults and children. The hospital was officially opened by the NSW health minister, Mrs Jillian Skinner, on 1 February.
