Directors of Essilor International, at their meeting on 24 November, appointed Mr Hubert Sagnières as chairman and chief executive officer of the company, effective 2 January 2012.
Mr Xavier Fontanet, former CEO and at present chairman, will remain a director of the company.
At the 5 May 2011 annual shareholders’ meeting, Mr Fontanet indicated that he thought it was the appropriate time to return to Essilor’s traditional mode of governance by regrouping the functions of chairman and CEO. They had been separated on 1 January 2010 following the nomination of Mr Sagnières as CEO.
The board recognised the contribution of Mr Sagnières during his 22-year career within the company and in particular in his role as CEO since 1 January 2010.
