Essilor release lenses for extreme visual needs

13/09/2017By Matthew Woodley • Staff Journalist
Essilor Australia has released a ‘Special Lenses’ range designed to help improve the vision of people with exceptional or unique visual needs.

The lenses, which received the ‘Excellence in Lens Design’ award at ODMA 2017, are designed for patients with high ametropia, specific pathologies and other special visual needs.

The Special Lens service includes the Essilor Exceptio lens, which offers an extensive pre-defined range from spheres -40D to +30D, and also an on-demand range of custom-made lenses. These unique lenses, available in spheres from -108D to +70Dm, are made for those with extreme ametropia, or other challenging occupational vision environments.

Essilor is also offering a training program to advance industry understanding of the lenses, and how they can be used to treat complex visual needs.

Examples of cases where special lenses have been used include a -108D cyl 6.00 lens for a photographer in Slovakia, a +35 D prism lens for a wearer in the Czech Republic, and most recently, a +7OD lens for a wearer in Australia.

Optometrists can access Essilor Australia’s Special lenses offer by contacting their usual customer service representative.
