New College of Optical Dispensing launched

07/12/2016
The newly established Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) plans to offer four courses from next year.

ACOD plans to have an official opening in early 2017 and will aim to deliver training and continual professional development to meet the growing needs of the optical dispensing industry.

Mr James Gibbins, ACOD director and senior trainer explained that there is a need for flexible programs providing practical workshops in most capital cities.

"Being a private provider of training, ACOD will meet these needs by negotiating with employers regarding the structure and focus of the training to meet individual practice needs, introducing our optical essentials short course - which is aimed at the training needs of unqualified or inexperienced practice members - and aligning all training with units of competency from the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing to enable seamless articulation," Mr Gibbins said.

Among other things, ACOD aims to provide interactive online activities and ongoing industry engagement. "ACOD is planning a variety of CPD events which support professional knowledge, skills and attributes throughout 2017," Mr Chedy Kalach, ACOD director said.

"These will be accessible via our online learning platform and workshops and meetings at different locations around Australia. Specific details around dates, locations and topics will be announced early in the new year once programming is finalised," Mr Kalach said.

ACOD's status as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with the Australian Skills Quality Authority is "soon to be confirmed" and the courses it plans to offer as a RTO includes:

  • Optical Essentials
  • Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing
  • Certificate III in Business Administration (Education)
  • Certificate IV in New Small Business

More information on ACOD can be found on its website www.acod.com.au.
