Australian Vision Convention to host dispensers program

09/03/2018By Matthew Woodley • Staff Journalist
Brisbane’s upcoming Australian Vision Convention (AVC) will, for the first time, run a dedicated dispensers education program alongside its traditional optometric CPD sessions.

The Rodenstock-sponsored program will feature presentations from respected lens educators and aim to upskill dispensers on the latest lens technologies, as well as patient communication strategies. The course is designed to allow dispensers to better explain the technology behind, and advantages of, premium lenses.

Adjunct senior lecturer from the University of NSW’s School of Vision Science Mr Grant Hannaford will discuss complex cases and compensated values, while Rodenstock sales and professional services manager Ms Nicola Peaper will aim to assist attendees with resolving non tolerance issues with digital lenses.

Maintaining the digital lenses theme, coordinator of TAFE NSW’s optical dispensing course, Mr Steve Daras, will explain why the digital world needs digital lenses, not progressives. Meanwhile, optometrist and consultant Ms Helen Venturato is set to give details on dispensing to enhance sports performance.

Finally, Spectrum Optical director and president of the Australian Dispensing Opticians Association’s Victorian chapter, Mr Leigh Robinson, will lecture on the importance of position of wear measurements.

In an indication of the quality of the program on offer, New Zealand dispensers in attendance will be eligible to obtain up to 2.5 CPD points, with each lecture approved for 0.5 clinical points.

The program will run on Sunday April 8, the second day of AVC 2018, and registration is available on the Optometry Australia website.
