George & Matilda reach 40 stores

15/11/2017By Matthew Woodley • Staff Journalist
Australian optical chain George & Matilda Eyecare has opened its 40th practice less than two years after it launched.

The latest acquisitions for the rapidly expanding franchise included practices in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, and CEO Mr Chris Beer said the continued growth was a testament to the company’s business model.

“Our vision has always been to bring together the best independent optometrists around Australia to give them the support and tools they need to grow their business in an increasingly competitive environment,” Beer said.

“The strength of our model lies in the fact that we achieve this while maintaining the independence of these practices. That’s why we have attracted so many well-respected players and have managed to reach 40 practices in a short space of time.

“We have found by working closely with our partners to maintain their independence while supporting them with their back-office needs, together with our great buying power as a group to source the best range of eyecare solutions, is a winning formula for success,” Beer added.

Mr David Evian, the owner of one of the recently acquired practices, Evian Eyecare, said he was looking forward to working with George & Matilda.

“It was critical to find a partner who understood the uniqueness of my practice and who could provide support to me and my staff to help us be more effective in an increasingly challenging market,” Evian said.

George & Matilda launched in April last year and now has practices located in all major Australian capital cities.

Aside from Evian Eyecare in St Leonards in Sydney, the latest acquisitions include two Axis Optical two practices on the Gold Coast, Ponds Eyecare – the franchise’s first Melbourne-based location – and two Eyes On Optometrists practices in Perth.
